lou's advice hidden gem

the last time i was down at wdw i took the advice of lou mongello on wdw radio and went out to find one of the little known hidden gems at disney world.  this specific hidden gem is located in the courtyard of the animation area at hollywood studios.  little known to most guests as they are shuffled on a left turn into the theater at the beginning of the animation tour, if you go straight, there is a little courtyard.  in this courtyard are three cement hand prints of famous disney animators; marc davis, ken oconnor, ward kimball and of course frank thomas and ollie johnston.  i was so happy to find it. thanks lou.

Fiiinnnnaaally

So I put in my disc of tangled and what should my astonished ears hear? The lion king will finally be rereleased this fall. Happy days are here again!

The lion king is by far my favorite of the Disney animation revival, and now hakuna matata shall once again echo throughout the land.

The land-epcot's biggest design flaw

I love the land pavilion. I still think living with the land is a great ride, and the behind the seeds tour is a hidden gem. Soarin is amazing, and even food rocks before it was cool. And I think sunshine seasons is best place in epcot for a hassle free bite to eat. But whoever designed the whole enter on the second level and have most of the stuff to do on the first level was not thinking ahead.

The one up and one down escalator on opposite ends of the far side of upper level was probably okay when this pavilion didn't have a headline attraction, but these days arrggghhhh. Every time I go in there recently there are just stampedes of people heading in what seems like every direction.

I understand that Disney doesn't want to lose the feel of the pavilion, but why not put in a separate soarin entrance. Imagine how calm the pavilion would be if the trampling soarin crowd wasn't going up and down the stairs in the wrong direction.

And let's not get started on the whole soarin entrance/fast pass area mess in itself.

Sorry little rant. All better now.

on-site vs off-site

so back to my thoughts on wdw travel.

in 2006 my in-laws allowed my wife and i to use some of their time share time to go to disney world. well not so much disney world because it was "off-site".  you know "not on disney property."  it was a great time and definitly a time to remember. but now having stayed both on and off property, if i can help it i will always stay on disney property.

the one reason i want to mention here first is driving time.  each day getting up fighting through traffic and 30-45 minutes later getting to epcot was ridiculous. especially if like myself you are traveling with someone whom does not feel the disney magic, the waiting in traffic will kill your good time.

now once you are disney property traveling around there seems to be no problem getting here and there.  it's just getting to property that is such a risky endeavor.

if i can offer any advice at all let it be that you try as much as you can to stay on disney property.
